TEREA vs HEETS: What Is the Difference?
4 min read · Updated November 6, 2026
They come in similar packs, cost about the same, and sit next to each other on the shelf - but TEREA and HEETS are built for different generations of IQOS, and using the wrong one is more than a wasted pack. Here is how to tell them apart.
Two sticks, two heating systems
HEETS are made for older IQOS devices (the 3 DUO generation and earlier). Those devices push a metal heating blade into the stick and heat the tobacco from the inside. TEREA sticks are made for IQOS ILUMA: the heating element is sealed inside the stick itself and works by induction, so the device has no blade at all. Same idea - heat, not burn - two incompatible mechanisms.
They are not interchangeable
This is the part worth remembering. A TEREA stick in an older blade device can damage or snap the blade, because the sealed stick is not designed to be pierced. A HEETS stick in an ILUMA has nothing to heat it properly - ILUMA has no blade, and the stick contains no induction element. If the pack name does not match your device generation, do not try to make it fit.
Day-to-day differences
Because there is no blade and the stick is sealed, ILUMA with TEREA needs almost no cleaning - no tobacco residue builds up in the holder. Blade devices with HEETS need regular blade cleaning and more careful handling, since the blade is the fragile part. Puff experience is similar by design; the difference is the hardware routine, not the tobacco.
Which do you need?
Own an ILUMA or ILUMA ONE: buy TEREA. Own an older IQOS with a blade: buy HEETS. Buying your first device now: the ILUMA line is the current generation, and TEREA is its stick. Our IQOS section lists both devices and the TEREA range; we stock TEREA in 54-stick and 180-stick packs.
